MATERIALS:

  • 8oz styrofoam cups
  • laminated picture of hibernating bear
  • cotton balls
  • craft sticks
  • glue
  • small pointed cuticle scissor
  • brown yarn for inside cup

METHOD:

  1. Teacher Preparation - cut a slit in the bottom center of the styrofoam cup with the small pointy scissor large enough to slide the craft stick through.
  2. Laminate and cut out pictures of hibernating bear.
  3. Write the students' names with black marker on one end of each craft stick.
  4. Optional - cut a small "window" on one side of the cup to view the bear sleeping in the cave.
  5. Give each studnet a styrofoam cup, a laminated bear, a bunch of cotton balls for snow, strings of brown yarn for inside the cave, glue or glue stick, and a craft stick with their name on one end.
  6. Glue the cotton balls on the outside of the cup for snow.
  7. While letting dry, glue the hibernating bear onto the craft stick opposite the student's name.
  8. Glue the strings of brown yarn inside the cup for dirt.
  9. Run the craft stick through the slit in the bottom of the cup. The students can slide the bear in and out of the cup to represent him sleeping and coming out of the cave.
  10. Put in a safe place to finish drying.
